Promoting Climate Resilience

The Caribbean has an abundance of natural beauty and biodiversity, which is favorable for locally made, environmentally friendly materials production. Yet the amount of sustainable materials R & D activities out of this vast area are limited. Establishing more STEM-related startups in this region is essential to devise unique solutions appropriate for the climate, reduce reliance on imports, and retain local talent. We have partnerships in this region to promote skills development training in materials science and manufacturing. 

Focus areas include bio-derived packaging materials, natural fibers and textiles, materials made from sargassum, environmentally friendly construction materials, failure analysis, material aging, and more.
